Sleazy Site Operator Behind Bars
Online Gambling News
After the massive efforts of the online gambling community to try and have the US Anti-gambling Legislation appealed and the push forward by some high powered Washington Senators there is always a bad apple on the horizon to throw a wrench into things.
Yesterday an online gambling site operator was sentenced to 10 years in a Texas prison and ordered to play close to $1,000,000.00 in restitution for scamming dozens of elderly people out of their retirement money.
Robert Marshall founder and President of EMC Group based out of Fort Worth Texas which operated worldpokerparty.com and doubleyourmoneycasino.com who were affiliate sites for some offshore operators pleaded guilty to mail fraud and sentenced on Friday.
The gist of the scam was that Mr. Marshall was to be paid revenues from offshore gaming establishments based on a percentage of his customer's losses. Mr. Marshall then sold off shares in his company at $10,000.00 units. Authorities said the program generated less than $1000.00 in revenue for Marshalls Company.
In 2003 Marshall emailed false financial statements to various investors to get them to invest more heavily in his business. Most of these were retired elderly victims using their retirement funds to cash in on this so called lucrative investment. At least 41 victims were duped out of $900,000.00.
Chances are this is an isolated incident in the highly profitable online gaming sector but it's guys like this that make legitimizing the industry a whole lot harder.
