The expert blackjack players believe that the house advantage on a typical casino blackjack table is just a mere 5%. This makes blackjack the most popular casino game as well as the only casino game that offers such high odds to win.
Most players who follow simple basic blackjack strategy can limit the odds to the house by as little as 1%. Professional players will tell you that making a profit at blackjack is a long term investment and those who play religiously have returns of as little as 1% to a high of only 5%.
Basic strategy will dictate that taking side bets such as insurance and the new royal 20's variation offer less than the 49% so they should be avoided.
For example on an insurance bet the house holds a 6% advantage and on royal 20's it can be as high as 18%.
Blackjack is one of those casino games that runs on streaks, sometimes you'll be hot and sometimes you'll run a cold streak. Don't let the winning streaks go to your head, know your limits and stick to them. If you are on a cold streak walk away from the table, don't chase your losses. One of the most successful betting strategies for winning at blackjack is money management. It is called the positive progressive strategy, where in you basically only bet what you have won.
Ex: If you are placing $5.00 bets on the first round and win that bet, you would again bet $5.00. If you won that second bet you would bet $10.00 on the next hand. If you won that one you would again bet $10.00 and so on. If you lose any of your bets you would go back to your original bet of $5.00. This way you ensure that you are only playing with your initial winnings. Remember to always leave the table with exactly what you came with, don't chase your losses.
